Autobiography

A quick summary of the last 20 years.

My name is Jeremiah Johnson. I have a beautiful daughter, Jaime. I’m a web programmer by trade and I enjoy creating things.

I started making websites back in 1997. I was just messing around and really got into it. I learned some HTML and learned to use Photoshop a bit. So I created my first website, BullFroGG’s Web Page. It was just a bunch of stuff that I found on the internet, some poems that I wrote, and some other stuff I can’t remember. I also created a Free Web Guide that was basically a list of links to free stuff on the internet for webmasters: hosts, pictures, and programming guides.

It was just a hobby, I was working at a document scanning company at the time living in Austin, TX. That’s when I started Listen2Austin.com. It was an internet radio station that played local bands only. I had hundreds of bands on there and it was a lot of fun. It costs me money to run every month, so I eventually had to give it up when things got too tight on my budget and the FCC made it unaffordable for the average person to stream their music collection over the internet.

During that time though, I met a lot of musicians, bands , artists, and club owners. I took advantage of this and created some websites for them. Most notably, LiveAtTheVibe.com (with programming help from Adrian Hancock, a friend of mine who helped me with the site and the radio station), a website for a live music venue right on 6th Street.

After the station was gone, I knew what I wanted to do. Make websites.

A few years later, I got an opportunity to go to Daytona Beach Community College.. I went for several years, did really good in the programming classes and even landed a job as the Computer Science Tutor. I graduated in 2008 with an Associate of Science Degress (AS) in Internet Services Technology, an AS in Web Development Specialist, and AS in Information Technology Administration.

Immediately after graduation, I landed a contract position at IBM on the Software Group Team using XML/XSLT primarily. It was only a temporary position, but I thought it was a good start.

After the contract was completed, I couldn’t find much work so I ventured out on my own starting with Swimplicity.com, for whom I wrote a custom application in PHP that helps schedule pool service and record/analyze the data they collect at each appointment. Things died down again as far as development goes and I ended up working with Swimplicity building and maintaining pools for 1 1/2 years.

Then I got a job at HostGator as a Junior Administrator providing customer support for web services, hosting, and even some development issues. Great place to work they allowed me to continue to work as an Independent Developer.

I’m still in the beginning of my career and I’m looking forward to being very successful.
